Itinerary

DAY 1

ERRACHIDIA – ZIZ VALLEY – ERFOUD – MERZOUGA

Our services begin at Errachidia Airport or at an agreed meeting point in the city. We will pick you up in our comfortable private vehicle and begin a scenic journey filled with fascinating landscapes and memorable experiences. Heading south, we will travel through the middle and lower sections of the Ziz Valley. The Ziz River rises in the Middle Atlas Mountains and gradually disappears as it approaches the Sahara Desert. Along this peaceful and spectacular route, several places of interest will appear before us. One of them is Erfoud, a town renowned for its fossils and minerals, which have become an important attraction for visitors exploring this part of Morocco. We then continue towards Merzouga, a small desert town that gives its name to one of the most spectacular areas of the Moroccan Sahara. With the vast desert stretching out before us, we will spend the night in a charming kasbah-style hotel, allowing us to rest and prepare for the unforgettable experiences awaiting us over the next few days.

DAY 2

MERZOUGA – KHAMLIA – NOMADIC FAMILIES – ERG CHEBBI DUNES

The second day of this tour will give us the opportunity to experience the Sahara from an authentic perspective. The itinerary includes a journey along desert tracks, some of which were used by the legendary Paris-Dakar Rally, taking us through fascinating landscapes and communities with unique traditions. Our first stop will be Khamlia, popularly known as the “Village of the Black People”. Many of its inhabitants are descendants of people who came from regions south of the Sahara. Their traditional Gnawa music, recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage, is characterized by powerful rhythms, percussion and group singing. We will enjoy a traditional Gnawa performance and discover this fascinating musical heritage. We will then continue towards another part of the desert, passing old kohl mines that were extensively exploited during the French Protectorate. Other historical traces from this period can still be found throughout the area. From the highest points of our route, we will enjoy impressive panoramic views of the surrounding desert, especially the spectacular golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. Before entering this vast sea of sand, we will visit a nomadic family. Although some nomadic families are gradually settling down, many continue to preserve the traditions and customs of their ancestors. They will welcome us into their home and share with us how they live and adapt to such a remote environment. In the afternoon, we return to Merzouga, where we leave our vehicle and begin our camel ride into the heart of the Erg Chebbi dunes, with one camel per person. As the sun begins to set, we will reach our traditional Berber desert camp. Far from the noise of everyday life, this peaceful setting offers the perfect opportunity to enjoy the beauty and silence of the Sahara. Around the campfire, with a glass of traditional Moroccan tea in hand, we will enjoy the evening before a typical Berber dinner is served. For the night, the traditional haima tents will be our home beneath a spectacular sky filled with stars, far from artificial lights and the noise of the city.

DAY 3

ERG CHEBBI DUNES – TODRA GORGES – DADES VALLEY

Although the Sahara has already offered us unforgettable experiences, there is still one particularly magical moment to come: sunrise over the dunes. It will be worth waking up early to watch the first rays of sunlight illuminate the desert and gradually transform the colors and shadows of the golden sand. After sunrise, we will have breakfast at the camp before returning to Merzouga by camel. Once there, you can enjoy a refreshing shower before continuing our journey. We then head west towards the Dades Valley and Todra Gorges. The Todra Gorges are one of Morocco’s most impressive natural landscapes, famous for their dramatic vertical cliffs and the narrow passage between them. The area is also considered one of the country’s most renowned destinations for climbers from around the world. We will have time to explore this remarkable natural setting and enjoy a walk through the gorge, with plenty of opportunities to take memorable photographs. After visiting this unique landscape, we continue towards the Dades Valley, where we will stop in one of its small towns and settle into a charming riad. Here, we will enjoy dinner and spend a peaceful night surrounded by the beautiful landscapes of the Dades Valley.

DAY 4

DADES VALLEY – VALLEY OF THE ROSES – OUARZAZATE – HIGH ATLAS – MARRAKECH

On the fourth and final day of our journey, we leave the Dades Valley and continue towards the beautiful Valley of the Roses, which becomes particularly colorful and fragrant during spring. Along the way, we will discover why this route is known as the “Route of a Thousand Kasbahs”. The area is home to a remarkable concentration of traditional Berber castles and fortresses built from adobe. While some have fallen into ruin, others remain beautifully preserved and can be visited. One of the finest examples is the Kasbah of Taourirt, located on the outskirts of Ouarzazate. The kasbah was once one of the strongholds of the powerful El Glaoui family, whose influence was comparable to that of the feudal lords of medieval Europe. While its exterior appears imposing and almost impregnable, the interior reveals a remarkable delicacy, with traditional ceramic and plaster decorations reflecting the finest elements of Arab and Berber craftsmanship. After the visit, we begin our ascent towards the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, a spectacular mountain pass in the High Atlas at an altitude of approximately 2,260 metres above sea level. From here, we can admire magnificent views of the highest sections of the High Atlas Mountains. We then begin our descent through beautiful valleys and traditional Berber villages, continuing towards Marrakech. Our services will end in Marrakech. You may choose to be dropped off at Marrakech Menara Airport, Marrakech train station, your hotel, or another agreed location in the city. We will say goodbye with the hope that this journey will not be a farewell, but rather a “see you next time” adventure with us.
