Itinerary
DAY 1
ERRACHIDIA – ZIZ VALLEY – ERFOUD – MERZOUGA
Errachidia is strategically located as a gateway to the Moroccan Sahara. Situated in the province of the same name, the city is approximately 125 km from the spectacular Erg Chebbi dunes near Merzouga. For this reason, Errachidia is an ideal starting point for this journey. We will pick you up at the location of your choice, whether at the airport, your hotel or another agreed meeting point, and begin our private journey south through the beautiful Ziz Valley. One of the first important stops will be Erfoud, a town famous for its fossils and minerals. The surrounding area is rich in geological and paleontological discoveries, including fossils dating back millions of years. Continuing south, we will reach Merzouga, the gateway to the magnificent Erg Chebbi dunes. On this first evening, you will stay in a charming hotel-kasbah, where dinner will be served in an atmosphere inspired by Berber culture and the traditions of the desert.
DAY 2
MERZOUGA – KHAMLIA – NOMADIC FAMILY VISIT – ERG CHEBBI DUNES
The second day offers an authentic introduction to the landscapes, traditions and people of the Sahara. We will begin with a visit to Khamlia, a small desert village famous for its Gnawa music. The community has preserved its musical traditions and cultural heritage for generations, making a visit to Khamlia a memorable cultural experience. We will have the opportunity to enjoy a live performance of traditional Gnawa music. We will then visit a local nomadic family and discover their traditional way of life, which remains closely connected to the desert environment. With the help of our local team, you will have the opportunity to meet the family, learn about their daily lives and share a genuine cultural experience. To reach some of the more remote areas, we will travel by 4×4 along desert tracks, including routes associated with the legendary Paris-Dakar Rally. Along the way, we will discover abandoned mining areas, desert landscapes and panoramic viewpoints overlooking the Erg Chebbi dunes. We will then head towards the dunes. A camel ride, one camel per person, will take us across the golden sands towards the desert camp. If preferred, the camel ride can be replaced with a 4×4 transfer. At the desert camp, you will enjoy dinner and spend the night in comfortable traditional tents inspired by the nomadic camps of the Sahara. Away from the noise and lights of the cities, the peaceful desert night offers an unforgettable experience beneath the stars.
DAY 3
ERG CHEBBI DUNES – TODRA GORGES – DADES VALLEY
Sunrise in the Sahara is a magical experience. We recommend waking early to watch the first rays of sunlight illuminate the Erg Chebbi dunes, transforming the golden sand and surrounding landscape into a spectacular scene. After breakfast at the camp, we will return to Merzouga by camel. You will have time to take a shower at a local hotel in Merzouga, if this service is not already included at the camp. We will then continue our journey towards the Dades Valley. Along the way, we will make a detour to the impressive Todra Gorges, where a river has carved its way between enormous limestone cliffs rising more than 100 metres in some sections. The Todra Gorges are particularly popular with climbers, but they are equally impressive for travellers who simply wish to walk through this spectacular natural landscape. We will then continue towards the Dades Valley, part of the famous Route of the Thousand Kasbahs. Along the route, traditional adobe kasbahs and villages remind us of the ancient caravan routes that once crossed this region. In the evening, we will arrive at a charming riad in the Dades Valley, where dinner and overnight accommodation will be provided.
DAY 4
DADES VALLEY – VALLEY OF ROSES – OUARZAZATE – AÏT BEN HADDOU – MARRAKECH
The fourth day continues through some of southern Morocco’s most impressive landscapes and historic kasbahs. After breakfast, we will leave the Dades Valley and travel through the beautiful Valley of Roses, known for its fragrant rose cultivation and traditional villages. We will then continue to Ouarzazate, where we will visit the magnificent Kasbah of Taourirt, once the fortified residence of the powerful Glaoui family. Built from adobe and richly decorated with traditional Moroccan craftsmanship, Taourirt is one of the region’s most impressive historic kasbahs. From Ouarzazate, we will continue towards Aït Ben Haddou, one of Morocco’s most famous fortified villages and a remarkable example of traditional southern Moroccan architecture. We will explore its narrow streets, adobe buildings and panoramic views while discovering the history of this ancient caravan settlement. Aït Ben Haddou has also served as a filming location for numerous internationally known movies and television productions. After this cultural visit, we will continue towards the High Atlas Mountains. We will cross the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka Pass, reaching an altitude of more than 2,200 metres. The mountain road offers breathtaking panoramic views and numerous opportunities to stop and admire the scenery. As we descend from the High Atlas, we will pass Berber villages and mountain landscapes before reaching the plains surrounding Marrakech. Upon arrival in Marrakech, you will check into your riad in the historic Medina, where you will spend the next two nights.
DAY 5
MARRAKECH – GUIDED TOUR
Marrakech and its fascinating history take centre stage on the fifth day of the journey. Accompanied by an officially licensed local guide, you will explore the historic heart of Marrakech, discover its most important landmarks and gain a deeper understanding of the city’s history, architecture and culture. Depending on access and availability, the guided tour may include some of the city’s most remarkable sites, such as the Bahia Palace, Saadian Tombs and Ben Youssef Madrasa. We will also see important landmarks such as the Koutoubia Mosque and the famous Jemaa el-Fna Square, iconic symbols of Marrakech. The afternoon will be free for you to enjoy the city at your own pace. You may choose to visit museums, explore the souks, discover the Majorelle Garden, visit the El Badi Palace or simply relax and enjoy Moroccan cuisine. In the evening, you will return to your riad in the Medina for another overnight stay.
DAY 6
MARRAKECH – AIRPORT
The final day will be organized according to your flight departure time. If your flight is early in the morning, we will collect you from your riad after check-out and take you directly to Marrakech Menara Airport. If your flight is later in the day, you may have some free time to enjoy a final walk around Marrakech before your private transfer. In all cases, the airport transfer is private and provided with a professional driver. We will make sure you arrive at the terminal comfortably and on time, marking the end of your Moroccan journey.
